Wondering if your phone supports eSIM? You are not alone. With over 400 phone models now supporting embedded SIM technology — and more launching every quarter — keeping track of eSIM compatibility has become genuinely difficult.

This guide is the definitive, regularly updated list of every eSIM-compatible phone, tablet, smartwatch, and laptop as of March 2026. We cover Apple, Samsung, Google, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Motorola, Sony, Nothing, Fairphone, and more. We also flag the phones that don’t support eSIM despite what you might expect, explain regional restrictions that catch travelers off guard, and show you exactly how to check your own device in 30 seconds.

Last updated: March 2026. We update this list monthly. Bookmark this page and check back before your next trip or carrier switch.

TL;DR — Quick Check Guide

Don’t want to scroll through tables? Here is how to check in under 30 seconds:

iPhone: Go to Settings > General > About and scroll down. If you see an entry labeled Available SIM or eSIM, your iPhone supports it. Alternatively, go to Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM — if the option exists, you are good.

Samsung Galaxy: Go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager. If you see an Add eSIM option, your phone supports it.

Google Pixel: Go to Settings > Network & internet > SIMs. Tap the + button. If Download a SIM instead? appears, eSIM is supported.

Other Android: Go to Settings > Network & internet > Mobile network > Advanced (or SIM cards). Look for Add eSIM, Download SIM, or eUICC. If none appear, your phone likely does not support eSIM.

Universal method (any Android): Open the phone dialer and type *#06#. If an EID (a 32-digit number starting with 89) is displayed alongside your IMEI, your phone has eSIM hardware.

Important: Having eSIM hardware does not always mean the feature is enabled. Some phones (especially China-market models) have the chip but disable it in software. See our Regional Restrictions section below.

How to Check If Your Phone Supports eSIM

PlatformPathWhat to Look For
iPhone / iPadSettings > General > About”Available SIM” or “eSIM” field
iPhone / iPadSettings > Cellular > Add eSIMThe option exists at all
SamsungSettings > Connections > SIM manager”Add eSIM” button
Google PixelSettings > Network & internet > SIMs > +“Download a SIM instead?” link
OnePlus / Xiaomi / OPPOSettings > Mobile Network > SIM management”Add eSIM” or “Download SIM” option
MotorolaSettings > Network & internet > Mobile network”Add eSIM” option

Method 2: Dial Code

On any phone, open the dialer and type *#06#. You will see your IMEI number(s). If an EID (Embedded Identity Document) number also appears, your phone has eSIM capability. The EID is a 32-digit identifier that begins with 89.

Method 3: Carrier Check

Contact your carrier or visit their website. Most major carriers maintain their own eSIM-compatible device lists. However, be aware that carrier lists may exclude devices they haven’t officially tested — your phone might still work even if it’s not on their list.

Apple — iPhone

Apple has offered eSIM since the iPhone XS (2018) and went fully eSIM-only on the iPhone 14 US model in 2022. In 2025, the iPhone Air launched as Apple’s second eSIM-only phone — globally this time.

Chinese Brands — Xiaomi / Redmi

eSIM support on Xiaomi depends heavily on whether the phone is an international or China-market (guohang) model. International versions support eSIM; China-market versions historically do not, although this is beginning to change in 2026.

Chinese Brands — Huawei

Huawei’s eSIM situation is unique. Due to US sanctions limiting Google Mobile Services access, Huawei runs its own HarmonyOS ecosystem. eSIM activation on Huawei phones uses QR code scanning rather than app-based installation.

Phones That Do NOT Support eSIM — Common Gotchas

These are the phones people most often assume support eSIM but actually do not:

PhoneeSIM SupportWhy People Get Confused
Samsung Galaxy A16 / A15 / A06No”It’s a new Samsung” — but budget Samsung phones skip eSIM
iPhone X / iPhone 8 / iPhone 7No”It’s an iPhone” — but eSIM started with XR/XS (2018)

*Hardware capable but software-locked. See Chinese Android eSIM Guide for workarounds.

Regional Restrictions

eSIM compatibility is not just about the phone — it also depends on where the phone was bought and which carrier it’s locked to. Here are the most common regional pitfalls:

China-Market Models

Most phones sold in mainland China (labeled “guohang” or CH version) have eSIM hardware disabled in software. This affects:

  • All Xiaomi/Redmi guohang models (except future OTA unlocks as carrier trials expand)
  • All OPPO guohang models (except Find X9 Pro Satellite Edition)
  • All vivo/iQOO guohang models
  • All OnePlus guohang models
  • All Honor guohang models (except potential future updates)
  • Huawei: Only Mate 80 RS supports domestic carrier eSIM

Why? Chinese carriers (China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom) only began commercial eSIM trials for smartphones in October 2025. Manufacturers cannot enable eSIM on phones without carrier readiness on the network side.

Workaround: Use a 5ber physical eSIM card or buy the international version of the same phone.

Carrier-Locked Phones

In the US, carrier-locked phones from AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile may restrict eSIM functionality:

  • AT&T: Generally allows eSIM on supported devices after 60-day unlock period
  • Verizon: eSIM supported on most newer devices; older locked phones may be restricted
  • T-Mobile: Broadly supports eSIM; one of the more eSIM-friendly US carriers

Solution: Unlock your phone before attempting to add a travel eSIM. Contact your carrier or check the unlock status in Settings.

Japan-Market Models

Japanese phones (sold by docomo, au/KDDI, SoftBank, Rakuten) have some quirks:

  • Most support eSIM, as Japan has been aggressively promoting eSIM adoption
  • Mandatory shutter sound: Japanese phones have a non-disableable camera shutter sound (legal requirement)
  • SIM-locked Japanese phones from before 2021 may need carrier unlock before eSIM works

South Korea Market

Samsung Galaxy phones sold in South Korea were among the first to support eSIM but may have different profile storage limits. KT, SKT, and LG U+ all support eSIM activation.

eSIM-Only Phones (No Physical SIM Tray)

These phones have completely eliminated the physical SIM card tray. If you rely on physical SIM cards, these phones will not work for you:

PhoneMarketYearNotes
iPhone 14 (US models only)United States2022All four iPhone 14 variants sold in US have no SIM tray

Traveling with a US iPhone 14? Since your phone has no SIM tray, you must use eSIM for any cellular service, including international travel plans. The good news: dual eSIM means you can keep your US line active while adding a travel eSIM. See our iPhone eSIM Setup Guide for instructions.

iPhone Air buyers: This is the first iPhone sold worldwide without a SIM tray. Make sure your carrier supports eSIM before purchasing, especially if your primary carrier is in a market with limited eSIM infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my phone support eSIM?

The fastest way to check: go to Settings > General > About (iPhone) or Settings > Connections > SIM manager (Samsung) and look for eSIM-related options. On any Android, dial *#06# — if an EID number appears, you have eSIM hardware. See our full checking guide above.

Can I use eSIM and a physical SIM at the same time?

Yes, on most phones. This is called “Dual SIM” mode. You can have one eSIM profile and one physical SIM active simultaneously, each with its own phone number and data plan. Some newer phones (iPhone 13+, Samsung S23+, Pixel 7+) support dual eSIM — two eSIM profiles active at once with no physical SIM needed.

How many eSIM profiles can I store on my phone?

Most modern phones can store 5-8 eSIM profiles but only use 1-2 at a time. For example, an iPhone 16 can store 8 eSIM profiles and have 2 active simultaneously. This means you can store profiles for different countries or carriers and switch between them without rescanning QR codes.

Will adding an eSIM erase my physical SIM data?

No. Your physical SIM continues to work normally. Adding an eSIM is like adding a second phone line — it doesn’t touch your existing service. You can choose which SIM to use for calls, texts, and data independently.

Can I transfer my eSIM to a new phone?

It depends on the carrier and eSIM provider. Some providers (like Airalo and Holafly) allow you to reinstall an eSIM on a new device. Others issue single-use QR codes that cannot be reactivated. Apple’s eSIM Quick Transfer feature allows moving carrier eSIMs between iPhones during setup. Always check your provider’s transfer policy before switching phones.

Does eSIM work without WiFi?

You typically need an internet connection (WiFi or existing cellular data) to download and activate an eSIM profile. Once activated, the eSIM works independently — no WiFi required. If you are traveling without WiFi access, see our guide on setting up eSIM without WiFi.

Is eSIM better than a physical SIM for travel?

For most travelers, yes. eSIM lets you buy a data plan before you leave home, activate it instantly upon landing, and keep your home SIM active for calls and texts. No hunting for SIM card shops, no fumbling with tiny SIM trays, and no risk of losing your home SIM. For a detailed comparison, read our eSIM vs. Physical SIM guide.

My phone supports eSIM but my carrier says it doesn’t. What do I do?

Your phone and your carrier’s eSIM support are two separate things. Your phone might support eSIM but your current carrier may not offer eSIM activation (especially smaller MVNOs). The solution: you can still use third-party eSIM providers like Airalo, Saily, or Holafly for travel data, regardless of what your home carrier supports. Your home carrier only needs to support eSIM if you want to move your primary phone number to eSIM.

国行iPhone说明: 国行iPhone(包括在中国大陆Apple Store购买的版本)从iPhone XS开始就支持eSIM硬件。

Apple Watch

Galaxy

Pixel

  • 运营商eSIM(用eSIM开通移动/联通/电信号码)= 需要运营商支持 = 大部分国行安卓手机暂时不行
  • 旅行eSIM(用Airalo、红茶移动等第三方eSIM卡出国上网)= 只需要手机硬件支持 = 国行iPhone可以,国行安卓大部分不行
